A gift from a friend

I asked my old mate if he still had his Warhammer figures and whether he’d sell them to me. Kindly he said he didn’t want anything for them and gave me a carrier bag full.

This amazing act of kindness was the gift that kept on giving because when I opened the bag, there were some fantastic figures inside.

I know nothing about the sculptors who used to work for Games Workshop, except to say I do know a couple of names Jes Goodwin and Bob Olley are names I remember and I certainly remember the specific figures.  This bad had quite a few models by both sculptors.

Crazy miniature prices

I mentioned before what I think of Games Workshops’ daft prices. Some miniature collectors seem to think GW’s prices give them carte blanche to hike their prices when selling second-hand figures too. This irritates me.

Some miniature collectors were getting all excited because such figures can be worth a few quid nowadays. I’ll never enter into the silly money realms some collectors are prepared to go to, especially when there are so many companies out there still making great metal models.

Not to mention the growing army of amateur sculptors out there who use Kickstarter to fund their projects and create amazing miniatures.

As far as I’m concerned, if you’re not prepared to keep in the spirit of affordable modelling for all, then kiss my ass! I won’t pay daft money for figures. They are just models at the end of the day, they serve no other purpose than to be looked at.

A 2-inch figurine is not worth 80 quid, or 40 quid or even 20. It’s worth 2-5 at best and you know that’s the truth. If you think otherwise, I reckon you have too much money or have lost your sense of perspective. OK, socialist rant over.

Swapping figures is a different matter though, I’ll happily trade a figure I have no interest in if someone else wants it.  It makes sense to do swaps.

What do you think?

Am I correct or way off the mark, let me know how much you’d be prepared to pay for an elusive figure.
